How Treosulfan works Treosulfan is an alkylating agent that functions by forming cross-links between DNA strands. This process prevents cell replication and ultimately leads to cell death.
Side Effects
Common side effects of Treosulfan include infection, weakness, bleeding, breathing problems, nausea, hair loss, and skin discoloration.

- Inform your doctor if you develop shortness of breath during treatment with Treosulfan.
- Use contraceptives and do not conceive a child (get pregnant) while taking this medicine.
- Barrier methods of contraception, such as condoms, should be used during therapy and for six months after treatment.
- You may be at risk of infection; therefore, try to avoid crowds or individuals with colds.
- Immediately report fever or any other signs of infection to your healthcare provider.
- Avoid activities that may cause injury and bleeding during your treatment.
- Do not receive any immunization or vaccination (especially live vaccines) without your doctor’s approval while taking Treosulfan.
- To reduce nausea, take anti-nausea medications as prescribed by your doctor and eat small, frequent meals.
- Drink more fluids than usual for up to 24 hours after your treatment unless instructed otherwise.
- Swelling of the gums may occur as a side effect; frequent mouth rinses, good oral hygiene, and the application of ice may provide relief.
