How Atenolol and Chlorthalidone work Atenolol and Chlorthalidone is a combination of two blood pressure-lowering medications: Atenolol and Chlorthalidone. Atenolol is a beta blocker that specifically targets the heart to reduce heart rate and enhance the heart's efficiency in pumping blood throughout the body. Chlorthalidone is a diuretic that lowers blood pressure by eliminating excess water and certain electrolytes from the body. Over time, it also relaxes blood vessels and improves blood flow.

Common side effects of Atenolol and Chlorthalidone include nausea, dizziness, and slow heart rate.

  • It is a combination of two blood pressure-lowering medications used for the treatment of high blood pressure.
  • It can be taken with or without food.
  • Do not stop taking Atenolol + Chlorthalidone suddenly, as it can cause your blood pressure to rise abruptly, thereby increasing the risk of heart attack and stroke.
  • It may cause dizziness; if this occurs, get up slowly when rising from a sitting or lying position.
  • It can mask symptoms of low blood sugar if you are diabetic; monitor your blood sugar levels regularly.
  • Atenolol + Chlorthalidone may cause dehydration; drink plenty of fluids.
  • Inform your doctor if you develop extreme thirst, muscle weakness, or a very dry mouth.
